True and Unconditional Love

If you have a “friend” who only came around when they needed something, it wouldn’t be long before you cut ties with that person. They would eventually overstay their welcome in your life, and you’d each go your separate ways. Or maybe you’re the one that only comes around when you need something, and you start to notice that people start detaching themselves from you. We all know someone that’s played this role in our lives.

We often do this in our relationship with God. We only come around when we’re short on our bills, or when we’re looking for a new job. We cry out to God to save us from any bump in the road that we’re fast approaching. Sometimes he comes gets us out of the jam we’re in, and sometimes he doesn’t. When He does, we often forget to turn around and thank Him for never letting us down. But in the event that he doesn’t come through the way we wanted, then we’re quick to turn our backs on Him. In our daily walk through life, we wouldn’t continue to have friends that did this to us, yet we typically do this on a very regular basis with God. How is that fair? The only difference is God never turns His back on us. He never throws His hands up in frustration and gives up on us. And He continues to answer the phone when we call. How is this possible? It’s because He has pure and unconditional love for us and will never forsake us.

It’s similar to the love we have for our children. No matter how often they don’t listen to us, or let us down, or make us feel unappreciated, we never give up on them. We continue to love them unconditionally. God has this same love for us times 10.

We have to get into the habit of thanking God for blessings in our lives, no matter how major or minor it may be. Even before we start running down our list of needs. The same way we need to feel loved and appreciated by those close to us, the Lord wants this same admiration and loyalty from us. The Bible tells us, “Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.” (Psalm 36:5)

We should strive harder to remember that God comes through for us every second of our lives, and He won’t stop until we take our last breath, and thank Him for having the mercy on us to continue loving and teaching us. In doing this, we’ll continue to become closer in our relationship to Him.
