Can You Hear Me Now?
A while ago, Verizon made a big marketing slogan to advertise how well their coverage and service was. Many times, with cell phones, we may not get very good reception in the area that we’re in, so we move around a bit and get into a place with better reception. Then we say “can you hear me now?” I find that God does the same thing with us, only it’s not His reception that’s bad, it’s OURS. When we talk to God, our voices are heard loud and clear. No static, no background noises, nothing. But sometimes, when God talks to us, we don’t hear him as clearly. Often times, it’s because we have distractions or our spiritual ears are tuned in to the wrong things. Instead of having our ears to God, we have them on our jobs, or our relationships, friends, associates, everything else but Him. Then when we cry out for help, or decide to align ourselves with Him, he asks us “CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?”.
Not too long ago, I was in a financial bind with bills, commitments, and everything else. And even though I knew that my stresses were coming straight from the devil, I had allowed myself to let my ears and my mind receive it. And it didn’t take long to fester on my heart, where I was crying out to take this stress away. And He did, even though I was the one that let doubt and stress come in. Sometimes I don’t hear God as clearly as I’d like to, and I have to get into a quiet place and really talk to him. But other times, God will send other people to confirm what he’s already told me. I just have to LISTEN. The Bible says “Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge.” (Proverbs 19:27)
It’s the same as what we try to teach our kids, “just listen and follow directions”. But we, as His kids have to do the same thing, listen and follow His directions. Our rewards and blessings will grow if we do.
